The Nepal Tourism Year campaign basically centered on Chinese and Indian Tourists but as you walk around Thamel or just along the lakeside in Pokhara, one can't help but notice the many Europeans and North Americans that pass by.

New Year Party
Patan Durbar Square
The event began exactly at 6:00pm at the historical venue of Patan Museum amidst a crowd of about 70 people. While Kutumba began playing its folk numbers, this talented group of musicians made the crowd swing to its melody. By 7:00pm a large crowd had gathered and about 200 people started listening to the band play popular instrumental tunes.

Festival Of Lights
Legend has it that once there was a king who was living his last days of life. His astrologer had told him that a serpent would come and take his life away. The king did not want to die so he has asked the astrologer if there was any way to escape death. The king was advised to sleep with lit oil lamps all around his bed and decorate the palace with oil lamps on this day.

Dashain – Great Hindu Festival
Celebrated in Nepal and India
This is among the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar and comes as the finale of the nine-day festival, Navaraatri. This festival of victory is preceded by worship of Saraswati the Goddess of Learning and of Durgaa the Goddess of Strength. Grand processions of all Gods and goddesses are taken out in every town and village on this day, signifying the victory of the forces of righteousness over those of wickedness. The Goddess of Strength, Durga, has many incarnations.

Bhutan Travel Notes !
Architecture is uniform and beautiful. All houses are of a similar style and there are NO western type buildings. Even the newest buildings retain the Bhutanese flavor. Streams are clear and the roads are paved. There is electricity 24/7, the food is good and the people are very friendly.

Be careful not to use your spoon, fork or a hand being used for your eating to touch other’s food, plate, cooking utensil or the serving dish. Do not eat from other people’s plate and do not drink from other people’s bottle or glass. It is considered impure by the Nepalese.
